John Mark Lampley is an ecologist, illustrator, and artist based in Western Massachusetts. He works mostly in pen and ink and graphite and his work is inspired by the simple, elemental things.
His work explores cosmic subjects such as sun, moon, and stars; landscape subjects such as grassland, forest, and mountain; skyscape subjects such as horizons, clouds, and variations in light and dark.
At times whimsical, at times grave, his work studies themes of belonging, connection, ecosystem health and healing, queerness and grief. Many pieces are made through a deliberate, slow, and meditative process to render intimate textures and ambient moods.
John Mark enjoys exploring new subjects and ideas and always has numerous projects in the works. They are currently excited to explore more graphic illustration and character design, figure drawing, and visual story-telling.
